The Mermaids
Mermaids will weep when the weather is fine,
And sing when a storm’s in the air.
They’ll dance on the waves in sealskins that shine,
And tie knots in their long flowing hair.
They live for the sea, and the sea lives for them.
They’re at home in the cold olive green.
They’ll dive in the deep just to rummage a gem
From a crown that belonged to a queen.
Half woman, half fish; a desirable dish
With plump breasts for all sailors to see.
Alas! A wee kiss might be your last wish.
Her beauty does not come for free.
So, don’t look at her face! Don’t try to embrace her!
For seaweed’s her lone lingerie.
And if you’re lured in; if you try to chase her,
She’ll wash all your worries away.
