The Mermaid
In silhouetted symmetry
Your streamlined body split’s the sea,
With Tuscan sunset rippled light
Cascading through the depths of night.
Your sleek perfection wove its spell
An alabaster wishing well,
And every day you try again
Resurfaced from the twilight plain.
I watch you with a longing heart
Though we’re a million miles apart,
In whispered threads of Beaujolais
That fade upon the dying day.
The hour glass is turning slow
And my embrace is yours to know,
The ocean mist sings on the air
Just like the feelings that we share.
My hands disturb the water’s eyes
I almost feel your soft surprise,
Inside me you will always stay
Within the heartbeat of each day.
So leisurely you swim and sport
Each silent kicking motion caught,
By light distorted out of shape
That glistens on your flowing nape.
Then once again I reach the lands
With diamonds dripping from my hands,
So near, and yet so very far
I gaze across to where you are…
