The memory of tomorrow

I remember tomorrow, I know that sounds impossible.?
Like saying I have already cried?for a goodbye that hasn't happened yet.

But I can see the white rose
I can feel its stem between my fingers,?the thorn pressing into my skin,?and somehow, I know exactly when it will hurt.

I know there will be sunlight on the table.?I know someone will laugh in the next room,?I know I will stand there thinking,?Please, let me keep this moment.
And that is the strangest part?I haven't lived it,?but I miss it.

Maybe that's what love does.?Maybe loving something means?your heart starts remembering its ending?before your life has reached the
beginning.

Because I look at this rose?still closed, still becoming,?holding an entire bloom inside itself.
And maybe we are like that too:?carrying memories of places we've never been,?goodbyes we haven't said,?people we haven't met,?
futures we are already afraid to lose.
So yes, I remember tomorrow.
Not because I've been there
but because somewhere inside me,?I have already begun to love it.

Kristina, This is a remarkable poem. First: the structure. Somehow you interrupt with sudden words, or with punctuation marks, and still I can flow along with your theme, your thoughts of things to come that, yet, are a reality of NOW. Second: the Theme, the message. Time traveling of the soul, looking for spirit, fulfillment in living. I had to finish and then re-read this piece. If ever I have read a contemporary poem that captured the mystical aspects of humanity, this is one, yeah? BTW I am a retired lit teacher. I have developed my appreciation of writing through 31 years of reading work from every level of competence and caring about the craft. Good work, Kristina. Good and worthy of a place in the sun. Thank you so much, Frank. Your words truly mean a lot to me, especially knowing that you spent 31 years teaching literature and have such a deep appreciation for the craft of writing. The fact that you took the time to read my poem, reread it, and connect with the themes on such a personal and mystical level means more than I can really put into words. Thank you for seeing the heart behind what I wrote and for encouraging me to keep writing. I’m truly grateful. 🤍 Kristina Payne
