The Man in the Mirror

Into an opposing mirrored world
That is not always what it seems,
I look for a pattern near or far,
That reflects my fate and dreams.
But what I see is not me,
It is something vague and vexing,
Something mysterious, something lost,
Something so distressing--
That I step back and look away
From my reflected life’s reality
Before it seizes my soul in a vice-like grip
And makes me face mortality.
