The Lurker

Undetected behind
your hunting blind,
so deep within my
fearful mind

You lay in wait
in perfect silence,
prepared to unleash
your awesome violence

My poor heart pounds
upon these moments,
as my weakness, fear
of you does foment

My cursed logic
chuffs and chastens,
alas, your strike
it merely hastens

I'd give my arm,
my hand, my feet
if only you could
taste defeat

But here you stay,
you hide, you lurk;
within my mind
to do your work

Some day, I pray
to see you purged,
God, grant my wish
and give me courage
