The lonely old tree

The lonely old tree
Stands bare in the field
The shadows of history
Igniting it's yield
The images witnessed
Can be found deep within
And would guide our new thinking
Should we let it's truth in
The things we could learn
From the wise weary tree
If we could channel it's knowledge
Of the things it does see
The centuries rolled
And the tree stood there still
Surviving the destruction
Of the defiant human will
