The Locket
She wrote him everyday while he was away at war.
No address to send to left her heart sadly torn.
Months passed on by
Not knowing if he's alive
She grasped the locket that stayed around her neck.
A gift from him on their first anniversary.
Nights grew longer much more colder, she only could wish he was there.
As she thought about all the times together they once shared.
As she was sleeping, she repeatedly kept dreaming
About him sailing away.
He was holding a letter as he would say goodbye ending with a wave.
Before she could make out what the letter was
He drifted off
He was gone.
She woke in a panic with noise under her
It was a letter from him dated long before.
This letter is to you love I'm sorry I had to leave.
But it was my time to go to serve my country.
Knowing I wouldn't return home to you..I wrote this letter to help remind you too.
The day I had left you, a letter you received.
Stating from the doctor, You've lost your memory.
The hardest thing I've ever had to do, was leave you behind with no shoulder to cry onto.
But I'm with you always in your heart, carried on a necklace for you I bought.
Gone but never forgotten
Keep us safe in your treasured locket.
