The Living Dead

In the corner of the room, an empty vase
Where flowers used to be
She picked them every sunday morning
For all to smell and see

A toothbrush on the bathroom sink
No longer of any use
A glass now stained with lipstick
Half filled with orange juice

A closet that's filled with memories
Now sits in a silent abyss
A shrine to all I've ever known
A reminder of the one I miss

The perfume on her pillow
Still makes me feel she's there
But waking up alone in the bed
Is almost too much to bear

A house once filled with laughter
Now sits in disarray
An empty shell of broken dreams
Is all it is today

A shadow of a happy ending
That ended with the grave
Death took more than he came for
For I too, am now his slave
