The Little Girl Laugh
I heard a little girl laugh
it was tittering and tingly
it made my heart explode all over
where was it coming from?
I walked around the Alzheimer’s unit
looking for a little girl,
finally finding her, in the body of a ninety-year-old woman
her head was thrown and she was giggling away
uninhibited, with zest and gusto
the laugh of a small child,
it delighted me, and maybe others
I tried to meet her eye, but she was in another world.
