The Little Boy

Wolf! The little boy cried
No one listened and he died
How could we miss
Such a dark abyss?

Sharp teeth
Hidden behind the mask of a sheep
"Daddy why must you hurt me so?
How could they not know?"

Every night while we slept
That little boy wept
"Stop Daddy, why must you hurt me?
Why can't they see?"

He called Wolf, no one would look
Such horrors can only exist in a book
We were oh so wrong
And now he is gone
