The Leaving of Franschhoek
I'm going to Uvongo
Just me, my cat, and I
I'm saying good bye to Franschhoek
where I watched my darling die
To many, it's a great place
where they have all that they can hold
but to me it is a sad place
at the back end of the world
I'm off to see Uvongo
to see some greener hue
I'm off to seek some happy times
with people I once knew
My sadness must just stay here
Where once my happiness was true
for I'm off to see Uvongo
so goodbye from me to you.
Uvongo is my new life
where perhaps I can live again
to walk the beach and swim the sea
perhaps find love to ease my pain
to my friends I'll always love you
and you'll always be welcome there
you'll also know that I have to go
and for you I'll always care.
So I'm off to live Uvongo
just I, my cat and me
I'm off to see Uvongo
and live beside the sea
I'm off to live a new life
at the age of eighty-three
some will say I'm an old fool
but that is life to me.
