The Last Poem

On your next inspiration,
Before you begin—
Think if this is the last poem
That you will ever pen.

Fate will perhaps strike you down
And you will be no more—
But that’s just the way of this world,
Of that you can be sure.

So eat and drink and love your life—
That grand carpe diem—
Play the game to its full extent—
Call ‘em as you see ‘um!

Then on the next time you write,
It will not be your last—
So write away – enjoy yourself—
For this all, too, shall pass.

Glen, I love this poem. I have just started writing poetry recently and am enjoying myself thoroughly, especially when learning from other poets like you by reading what they write. All the best. Krista
