The Last Leaf

Having grown up within one big tree
the large strong base at its root
you feel secure knowing it's there
always looking down to its very foot

Being attached here on a branch
given real support from a blast
one feels safe in its connection
even to look up to the higher mast

So many dangers in one's life
coming down the rain soaks me through
making one so damp, need to dry out
all the years here makes you true

The worst element is the nasty wind
it comes across and batters one sore
left and right pulling you off a branch
but you hang on till it leaves to soar

But one day eventually all the leaves go
you are left alone being the one who's last
looking around many branches broken off
just a few left your eyes totally aghast

What is the future for this last leaf
death will catch it up eventually
broken from its branch fall on the ground
dries up with no life all providentially
