The Last Act

I'm done playing this game with you because no matter what we do it's going to be a lose-lose. It was never going to be her who got hurt by this. Looking back, we were naive to think that. It was always going to be one of us ending up with a broken heart. We're similar in more ways than one. With feelings, you act like you have none while I feel everything all the time. You couldn't care less about this-what you're putting me through. When you're around me, you're not the same flashy guy that everyone else knows. That version of you is an act for eight hours a day, five days a week but nobody knows who you really are when the mask comes off, when the curtains close so can we just drop the act for once and call it what it is? I'm done playing this role that isn't even mine to play. Done playing this game that we claim we're not playing but we both know I can't just walk away either.

So let this poem be my final goodbye, taking my mask off, and letting the curtains close. Maybe you should do the same-and pretend it's SO easy to just walk away.
