The Last 39 Minutes of My Life

The Last 39 Minutes of My Life

In the last 39 minutes….
38 minutes….
37 minutes….
I never was able to stop counting the minutes….
36 minutes….
35 minutes….
I start to wonder what would happen….
If I took my last breathe….
What it would taste like….
29 minutes….
I should’ve taken that job….
I should have moved to New York….
I should have ignored my parents and fallen in love….
I should have fallen in love….
I could have been so much….
If there is another life….
I will be courageous….
I will be proud….
I will be peaceful….
I will be loved.

Thanks for sharing this... exposing your thoughts through your unique poetic style. Welcome to Poetry Soup. I welcome you with the love of the Lord, expressed by John 3:16 of the Bible, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Be blessed.

Dear Gracie, your expression of one’s final thoughts was as captivating as it was poignant. I especially enjoyed the potent effect of your last five lives for a moving finale. The countdown of minutes added a sense of urgency to the wistful tone of your amazing poem. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan
