The Lady I Never Knew

She was beautiful, loved by all
She listened to their hearts
And in love with her they did fall
When they were troubled from the very start
She never steered them wrong
Always knowing exactly what to say
To make things turn out right
She had her special way
When she died, the neighborhood came out
Much comforting they did need
How she had always helped them out
Some called her a martyr indeed
Who was she I thought to me
This l lady of whom they speak
I’m sure I never met her
She never did those things for me
I never had anyone to talk with
Who would listen when I would pout
How I wish I had a mother like her
To help me sort things out
A mother who would hold me
Whenever I skinned my knee
Or when I had a broken heart
When other kids would tease on me
How I wish that I could have a mother
Like the lady that they speak
Then my turn to greet her came
When I saw her my knees grew weak
There she was my mother,
 Dressed in all in blue
Face made up and lying in a bed
The mother I never knew.

Christine, so heartfelt and sad. Just as a good poet can express feelings in a way that grab your heart and don't let go. Very well done, my friend.

Incredibly done...it was a blend of mystery, yet already being able to identify who they were, simply by following the heart...for better or worse. Strong piece.

Drake- Thank you so much for for helpful comments. I was afraid I spoon fed the lady's identity to much but I guess it worked. :) christine

This is sad! Sometimes it seems as if everybody knows our parents much better than us.
