The Lady Down the Lane
When I moved to the Hills many years ago
I did not drive so to travel anywhere was slow
A woman passed by my window every day
She waved to me as she went on her merry way
She recognised me in Church one day and approached me to talk
She asked me if she could drive me home as it was a long way to walk
I accepted her kind offer of a lift with pleasure
The start of a friendship I will always treasure
We were friends for several years then she sadly died
I valued this caring person with whom I had laughed and cried
I miss her very much, but she did not die in vain
I will always remember my dear friend Fay as the Lady down the lane
