The Journey of a Hero

at only age six
her mother gave up on her needs
not knowing what to fix
her heart bleeds

by the time she was eight
her innocence was no longer real
she was irate
and could not yet heal

when fifteen arrived
she craved love, however fake
and her pain thrived
while sanity was at stake

and at sixteen, with just a taste of what lay in store
the high was the only thing she had
and while everyone thought her a whore
it was the addiction making this girl mad

the biggest disease came at eighteen
when rock bottom was all she knew
abandonment was all that could be seen
but then again, her perception was ascue

through the ordeal of this horrid life
hatred filled loved ones' hearts
so she used a shiny steel knife
to substitute being emotionally torn apart

nineteen came around
something had to be done
with no help to be found
she set aside the gun

and told herself

I will be my love
I will be my support
I will heal my own wounds
and I will fix myself for nobody but me
