The Jonah Attitude
Perhaps I have a sweet voice
Perhaps I can convince and maybe.. warn
Is it that my legs are fast
And my hands filled with swiftness
Perhaps so special I am, physically and spiritually
That I have been sent for the task?
Oh no, WA-LA-LA
To go and break the walls of darkness
To go up and tear the devil’s kingdom down
A call to devotion and dedication
WA – WA- WA not me, never! Hapana
And perhaps a call to depart from the kawaida
I would rather listen to the voice within
“Lala wewe lala”
There is much to bargain and less to listen
Should I go or should I not!
One more time, should I?
Not I !
And oops, disaster strikes
The beginning of my failure, end of my success
Pain and anguish really follow me
The imagined special self, all flow to nothing
From hero to zero, from strong to weak
Pain at the top, front and all over
Can’t bear this anymore
Oh my Lord, talk to me, am listening
Am down to earth, lift me maker of earth
“Akiniita nitaitika, nitafanya kazi ya Bwana”
Oh – Oh – Oh Lord
Remove from me the Jonah attitude
And put in me the Paul attitude
I will listen to your cool sweet voice
Create in me a working heart
Much to talk of you, less to think of evil
And the sure thing is, all will be well with me
And your people will repent and come back to you
And the kingdom of the devil
Will come down … crushing!
