The Irises Lament
I'll be here but a day or two
but promise to boldly bloom for you.
Tall and stately I'll hold my ground
yellow, white, purple, blue and subtle shades of brown.
Colors and flowers that barely sway in the wind
with blends of burgundy and peach like non-identical twins.
A clutch of blades and sharp sworded green leaves
flower spikes so gracefully beyond belief.
One foot, two foot, three foot high
blended in along the garden walk by.
Before, behind, around the climbing rose
standing gleaming full and open before I close.
Soft pastels and hues of sunset blush
withering in the calm of twilight dust.
Another bud lay quietly in wait
and though I must go, I hesitate.
A moment more to grasp the sun
finally giving in as nature has won.
Good day, good night, goodbye I'm spent,
this is my task in life and the irises lament.
