The Interview
Early waking
Standing on line
Nerves keep me shaking
Waiting for a sign
Butterflies flutter
My stomach’s in a knot
Hoping not to stutter
Was there something I forgot?
Frantically search my stuff
I brought a résumé
I pray that it’s enough
I hope that it can sway
Block out any doubt
Sent to wait until 10:30
Wait for my name to be called out
In a waiting room that’s loud and wordy
Portfolio resting on my lap
Frequent glimpses of the clock
On my portfolio, fingernails tap
While I await the chopping block
