Notes About The Poem

A brief and poetic history of The House of Fuggar. Note that The Augburg tax registery of 1367 has the family name as an explitive and a laconic title [Fu**er advenit]. Advenit is Latin for "arrives". Fuggar is pronounced foo-gah

The House of Fuggar

In 1367, a birth of a family affair
To Augsburg, Hans Fuggar moved there
And the tax records record and have been scribed
The family name and expletive "Fu**er arrives"
Upon ancestral earth they stood
Fuggar, a name like seasoned wood
Rooted deep in centuries of care
As patrons of the humble and nobility to share
Beneath the skies watch an empire swept away
Their legacy, a lantern for the fray
This poetic chronicle of nobility, trial, and rebirth
A familial resemblance that stone and spirit skirt
In 1913's wintered dawn,
As history’s current pressed on
A crownless king, Ludwig's gentle hand
Princely honor was waved across their land
From spires to courtyards, the bells rang clear
A title sealed in memory, year to year
The light on the grave was only titular
Meeting every tumult at every curve
When storms of iron and shadows fell
It echoed in every prison cell
Another Fuggar steadfast and true
He joined the valiant, the chosen few
A whisper in the darkness, a candle’s breath
Defiance lit against the tides of death
February’s chill, 1944’s grim hour
Destruction came in and ruined their power
The Fuggerei a house still in use, but
To find the Fuggar’s future, you’ll need a sleuth
