The Heart of the Matter

Society seems hellbent to chuck,
the moral codes that hold it fast
so why are we so thunderstruck,
when cruel crimes the tube broadcast?

Once Adam sinned, man’s heart turned bad.
Cain killed Abel for being good.
Sin displeased God and made him sad,
and ruined Eden’s neighborhood.

New Agers teach that man is good
the god in him he can evoke.
If he would try, he surely could
transform himself, cast off sin’s yoke.

God declares that man at his core
a sinner is, and wicked too
the depraved deeds that from him pour
confirm that what God says is true.

The shrinks tell us there is no sin
they blame the space that man lives in.
Move him to a more favored place
and good deeds will the bad erase.

Improve the ways we educate
our children’s minds, and over time
they will improve, their wild ways shed,
and up the social ladder climb.

Man’s heart is so full of deceit
he knows not of its true extent.
Reprobate, with evil replete,
to wickedness and wildness bent.

New laws cannot man’s nature tame
laws make men blush, then find new ways
to break the rules, dispense with shame.
Men hate what’s right, the wrong they praise.

All human schemes to reform men
are doomed to fail if we refuse
to heed God’s Word but follow Zen
and hold on to our foolish views.

God has a plan to rescue man
from Satan’s grip, to set him free.
He told us from the very start
sin is a problem of the heart.

So, heed God’s word and to him turn
His righteous will, no longer spurn.
Ask Him to free you from sin’s strife
and give to you eternal life.
