The Heart of Purple
In the battles we have fought
In the fields; of a far off land
We took a stand; with a band
Of brothers; trained and adroit
In the ways of being the crusher
In the fight at the front-
Lines, to bolster and build; to bear the brunt
Of all that an insurgent could muster
With your brothers in arms;
Side by side; in the convoys
Of men and machines; all the epitome of the real McCoy
And duty bound to stand in harm’s
Way; in full battle rattle
Head to toe; to extend one’s reach
To stand and charge into the breach
Onto that day’s field of battle
For in the battle; we fight
With and along; side our war-brothers; to the bitter end
Hell bound on task to expend
All rounds into all foes insight
For upon, the day I was pinned
Mine war-bitten heart is with the men
Who were with me…and continue to be
My brothers in arms…now and forever.
