The Gorecrow
O' where are the soldiers -- where can they be found?
The soldiers lie strewn 'crost the battle-scarred ground
O' thither, O' thither the gorecrow must fly
Wherever the bodies of dead men do lie
Tahr-rahrahra caigh-o
Tahr-rahrahra caigh-ay
Who shall be feeding the gorecrow today?
And where are the sailors -- O' where can they be?
The sailors lie floatin', face down, i' the sea
Away thro' the tempest the gorecrow must speed
Before the cruel ocean recovers her deed
Tah-rahrahra caigh-o
Tah-rahrahra caigh-ay
O' who shall be feeding the gorecrow today?
And where are the ladies -- O' where do they lie?
In the kitchen or pantry, the wheatfields or rye?
Tis nae matter, for whither Love's maidens lie -- lo!
Tis thither, O' thither the gorecrow must go
Tah-rahrahra caigh-o
Tah-rahrahra caigh-ay
And who shall be feeding the gorecrow today?
O' where are the children -- the children who've died?
Hid fast in their cradle, by their mother's side
O' hasten then gorecrow -- O' hasten thee there!
For the flesh of Love's babes is a pleasure most rare
Tah-rahrahra caigh-o
Tah-rahrahra caigh-ay
O' who shall be feeding the gorecrow today?
