The Glass Menagerie

Witness our depravity To creatures big and small Locked up in captivity To entertain us all When hunted down and staged In jungles where they roam Then quickly bound and caged And taken from their home No longer wild and free They lose their sense of pride With days of misery They slowly die inside As they accept their fate We revel in their drudgery What hopeless eyes await Behind the glass menagerie

The thing is even when someone has a pet they control, I think the same thing..a dog wants to play with his own kind, but is yanked back with a leash, can’t go outside, begs to eat. Enjoyed your poem…so true, but yet we still collect the menagerie. You are a very good poet.

Thanks Kim, I was referring more to zoo animals, but there's a lot of pet abuse going on too.
