The Gift of the Dwarves

Deeply they dig Delving into the hearts of mountains Masters of stone They create underground palaces Slowly chipping away at rocks They enhance the beauty of the natural world They can be fierce foes Many an orc lost his head to their axes The bearded ones could not fight the Shadow of Sauron alone As Gandalf said"he is beyond the dwarves of this world even if they could be gathered together from the four corners of the world" The Fellowship of the Ring counted one stout dwarf in its company Gimli, by name showed the tender side of his people He waw the elven - queen Galadriel And knew her beuaty matched that of all the "mirthril" of the world Gruff exteriors hide good hearts When Durin returns the dwarves will rejoice Together with the varied races of Middle Earth whom they had a part in saving

What an enchanting poem, Matthew! Read the Hobbit long ago, but it made a lasting impression. Thank you for escorting me on my return to "Middle Earth." Captivating! Love, Carolyn

Oh Matthew, you know how much I love this write. Makes me want to reread the books and watch all the movies again (extended versions only). So well done, Gimli would be so proud! : ) Tealights are those tiny little round candles that fit into small holders of various design. I have no idea why they are called that, but I really did have a dream. Thanks for your comment. Love, Shar

This is a very interesting balad. It brought back memories of a visit to South Florida. There is a state park memorializing a long deceased group of people who belived that heaven was in the center of the earth. It seemed so strange to me. In the earth or in the sky??? For now, it's in each man's heart. I guess.
