The Gift of Identity
It defines me
It gives me a name
It labels my life
It may even show fame
It may haunt your existence
It gives you away
Its the mark of your soul
You use it every day
gives faith to others
emerges honor or woe
mark of the warrior
mark of your foe
gives hope to many
humiliates as well
written through history
forgotten, never to tell
brings back memories
sad or sweet
like honey fresh
or like a music beat
as precious as a diamond
or the name of the book
when looked upon
you criticize or your hooked
take it with you, cherish it so
given to man and woman alike
to either love,bring peace, or fight
given to humanity
as a long lasting infinity
for this short lived existence
is given
