The Gift
“Have you ever experienced that perfect moment?”
I was in my early teens
Life seemed easy and full of dreams
Childish play with no thought of tomorrow
Hid the realities and what might follow
“Not a shared moment, a private moment”
‘Deans Fields’ was a haven in my day
A place to unwind, a place to play
No thoughts of crime in this glorious park
Just twenty a-side football......until it went dark
“A moment, when you least expect it”
One afternoon in the summer sun
I was suddenly transfixed, suddenly at one
Lay in the grass, with my head to one side
Overwhelming emotions stirred inside
“A moment gifted to you by your creator”
This moment was perfection, totally devout
A moment in time I would always recount
In this moment, everything stood still
A sacred moment that touched my will
“Without loss can this moment be truly appreciated?”
A gentle breeze skipped over the grass
And the moment was gone, couldn’t last
Gone were the feelings of utter bliss
But not the gift of experiencing this
