The Final Altar Call
THE FINAL ALTAR CALL
The altar call in heaven will be a different time
Than what we’ve seen in churches or what may come to mind.
For there will be a judgment, each one will face the Lord
To give account of his life and to receive reward.
Some will be quite embarrassed, and some the tears will shed
Because of lack of witness or of the Bible read.
Some will be glad and joyful as they then look around
And souls they led to Jesus will be part of their crown.
But one thing at that altar that all of us will do
Is bow before the Saviour, His holy face to view.
We’ll all say, “Lord, You’re worthy to get this holy praise.
I tried my best to serve You through all my earthly days,
But I know all I could be and all I could have done
Was not all You expected or brought honor to Your Son.
And now I kneel before You, plead nothing but Your grace
That even now allows me to see Your holy face.
For I recall that altar on earth not long ago
Where I prayed for forgiveness because I wronged You so.
I trusted Your salvation, Your death upon the cross,
And in Your resurrection, Your love for all the lost.”
And then the blessed Saviour will lift us from our knees,
And say, “Well done, My servant, with that I am so pleased.”
Yes, though we may go often to altars here below,
And pray with tears and sorrow and from that place then go,
Our best is still in His sight a rag of worthlessness;
We can only plead His mercy and try to do our best.
So until our life is over and at His feet we fall,
Let’s keep our eyes upon Him and that final altar call.
