The Feeding

The blood on my tongue –
tastes of metal and hatred.
And I gulp it down shamelessly –
what a storm I’ve created.

My echoes and shouts –
(stir) up winds and earthquakes.
And they’re tearing down mountains –
as my voice, it now awakes.

I rise through the flames –
of my burdens and stress.
Like a Phoenix I rise –
burning down all the rest.

My fists, they are beaten –
my clothes, torn and tattered.
I’ve barely survived –
but that’s all that has mattered.

I still feel the scorches –
of those who’ve abused me.
But all of this anger inside –
it now fuels me.

It fuels me to fight back –
(it) taught me not to settle.
It’s shown me perspective –
perception at new levels.

My fear it now ebbs –
for I now claim my power.
Can no longer be stomped on –
like some delicate flower.

I am truly unstoppable –
so get out of my way.
I’ve fought for too long –
(for you) to slow my pace.

Not just a survivor –
no, I am a conqueror.
I’m now ruthless, relentless –
in all of my endeavors.

The battles, the wars –
they still ring in my head.
(But) now facing adversity –
I will rise up instead.

You thought you could kill me –
I once thought so too.
But I stitched myself up –
and no longer fear you.

(You broke) me down so small –
(you tried) to feed me to the lions.
Who’d think one day I’d feed on them? –
for now, I am the giant.
