The Fear of Loss

The fear of loss
Can make one run from love
So far, far away
That loss comes anyway.

I’m not afraid of dying
I’m afraid of what losing you
Would do

I’m not afraid of living
I’m afraid of living
Without you.

I ran for so long
Into the darkness of deepest night
Into the pouring rain
Looking for comfort

I lived in a bottle
To run from my mind
Into the soft slow comfort
Of impending self destruction

And then I looked inside myself
Once I had found my footing
And realized that all around me
Was the love for which I’d been looking

Just hold on to me
Never let me go
I’ll never run away
I do love you so.
