The Falling Elevator

The Falling Elevator

By Elton Camp

It was Meg’s worst recurring nightmare
She’d use a defective elevator somewhere

It’d fall thirty stories to the ground
In little pieces she’d then be found

Little comfort did she take
About the car’s safety brake

An elevator can’t possibly fall
She didn’t really believe at all

Years of trudging up & down stairs
A psychiatrist alleviated her cares

So elevators she began to ride
Apprehensions were set aside

Meg pushed the button to descend
With a lurch the elevator did begin

“Oh, no, oh, no,” she did call
It went into sickening free fall

Its speed increased at an alarming rate
Meg prepared to face a horrible fate

Just an instant before the fatal crash
She awoke from the dream in a flash

Elton...yes, fears arise constantly...held at arms length and analyzed...can be overcome, as you have written, in this energy packed poem! Jimbo

I've known people who had a deep fear of riding in elevators. Thanks for reading. Elton
