The Eyes of the Cherokee

Look in my eyes and you will see
The heart and spirit of the Cherokee
Of a people proud and free
Who respected all the earth as far as they could see
And when you see a tear in my eyes
It's only because I realize
Those days and people are all long gone
They are just memories which in us will live on
I often wonder what they would say
To see their land as it is today
No longer is it what it used to be
It's taken away in the name of progress you see
But as long as the memories are here in me
I will always see what use to be
Look in my eyes and you still can see
The eyes of the Cherokee
