The End Drops

The hum of the furnace
The buzz of silence
The smell of old
The feel of defiance.

The loneliness aches
The chair rocks
The TV stares
The night docks.

The time ticks
The memories fade
The wrinkles deepen
The age decays.

The sun rises
The sun sets
The day ends
The dark threats.

The eyes close
The heart stops
The family cries
The end drops.

Actually going somewhere and finding an end. That's good.

Lovely cadence for a sad subject, Deborah ! I love the ticking feel of poem with its daily images connected to death which seems final, though is only a transition. I resonate with this line : “The wrinkles deepen”. Have a blessed day/night, dear Poet.

Since I am divorced, my kids are always busy, I fear dying alone without anyone knowing. I had a double knee replacement June 24 followed by 4 revisions. Tomorrow I will find out if they are going to do another revision or amputate my right leg for lack of bone to do a revision. The last 22 months have been a battle so I turned to poetry to keep my mind busy. I absolutely love your poetry and wish I knew how to write like you. You are an inspiration to me.
