The Emerald City
In the dark of night
The fires were burning bright
Strangers , maybe friends , running by
Hate was their cry
Black, white, one and the same
Thinking it was some kind of game
Setting the city on fire
Watched it grow higher
Hate ruled the street
Added to the heat
Cars over turned
Business burned
Sounds of breaking glass
The beautiful city lost some of its class
Explosions filled the air
Nobody seemed to care
Madness slowly starts building higher
This city on fire
Sirens wail
Following the looters trail
Police build many a wall
Just to watch them fall
Fear starts creeping
The city ,weeping
Good people that hate turned bad
So sad
The emerald city starts to turn black
By hates attack
Burning ever higher
This city on fire
I cried
As the love died
Hiding faces behind mask
While they go about their task
Why hide your face if your doing no wrong
Does it make you strong
Just makes it burn that much higher
This city on fire
Civilization such a thin veneer, easy to fall
Giving a reason to stall
Mob rule
Just a tool
To be a fool
