The Dream
There was something in that dream
The puzzle pieces surely seemed
To be initials, only of your name
The sloping roof, the simple truth
Remembered dreams of recent youth
Shorn now of youthful strength
Life was surely not a
joyful game
With a broken 3/4 door
The voices mocked and underscored
The little hope, that we once surely had
The prowling feet hastened retreat
The flash flood rising in the street
Near washing us of everything
once glad
Awaking with a gasping start
A horrid ice clutching my heart
I rose and left the cold nightmare behind
Praying "Jesus, please release us!"
From this poverty which seizes
Then trusting in His mercies
true and kind
He heard our anguished prayer
Our Lord and Savior met us there
He always works our puzzled pieces out
Mercy extended, wilderness ended
Our loving Shepherd tended.
Leading us to greener pasture
Without doubt
