Notes About The Poem

The Door of Uncertainty

A decision, a choice, a journey into the unknown.
Loss of rationale, uncertain, hope becomes wind blown.
A gamble, a threat, a tear or a reason to rejoice.
A journey into the unknown, a decision, a choice.

Enter the desperate, and the brave, those without a care.
Consequence a mystery, its onward for mortals who dare.
Hidden behind the door, the unwanted or what we crave.
Those without a care enter the desperate and the brave.

Too risky to take a chance, so wait for a door that's open wide.
Perceptions of what lies within, the uncertain door does hide.
Its easier to sit it out than make the effort to dance.
So wait for a door that's open wide, too risky to take a chance.

Opportunities gone by, and the outcome will never be realized.
Was misfortune hidden beyond that door, to be despised,
Or riches beyond the wildest of dreams to make hopes high?
And the outcome will never be known, opportunities gone by.

Life is what you make it, and there is nothing totally certain.
The answer is not to hide behind a safety net, throw back that curtain.
You wont score a goal, if you dont take a shot, step up and take it.
And there is nothing totally certain, life is what you make it.

Why didn't you submit this excellent poem, SV? I can't help but be curious. I love it and would've placed it high, my friend. Happy Mother's Day!

Dear Edward, you and the others that commented just gave me my prize, the encouragement to keep trying! This was my first attempt at writing poetry, after nearly a year of being by his bedside when my husband was so ill. It was written over 2 days which is out of character for me, as usually my poems come freely and take minutes to write. I convinced myself that it wasn't of the high standard that attracts entry in your contests. From now on I just wont listen to myself. Thank you Edward.

From a stranger such a short while ago, dear Empress, you have proved yourself to be a sincere, caring person with a heart of gold. You just gave me a wake up call !!! You just pointed out that my poem was advising not to do exactly what I was about to do regarding writing poetry. I felt this is an inferior poem and was about to give up trying. Dilly tells me it will all flood back to me, maybe I will keep trying. A great big thank you. You really did shine your light.
