The Distance of Seasons Passed

The stars were shining brilliantly that summer evening, so radiant that any expressions
created as we spoke were clearly apparent leaving very little if no doubt exactly what one
another had felt.

As we stood on the veranda you and I, every time I caught your flashing eye or heard your
voice discourse of anything it seemed a star went burning down the sky.

I looked into your eyes that dying summer and found that your heart had grown wild. Where
upon you turned to me and smiled saying you were weary and afraid of being mute and
undefiled.

I spoke to you that last winter morning watching the wind blow creating a smokey fog that
danced across the icy frost. It spoke of how the beauty of your spirit, flesh, and smile had
made day break at night and spring burst beauty in the wasting winters place.

You did not answer when I spoke, but stood as if your sorrow were blown about in fitful
winds within. Where as you looked up at me and your eyes replied your heart had grown as
white and silent as the snow.
