The Depth of Death
A loved one's gone- no more to cherish, love-
with endless tears- and sleepless sleep,
on knees, one looks and prays to God above,
why did you take this life away-
my joy and purpose of each waking day?
Such heartfelt pain burns steep and deep.
The depth of death cannot be measured well;
there is no bottom that will show.
It smolders, flames, deep as the hottest hell,
then simmers, searing heart and soul;
all joy to ashes turn- no longer whole,
as burning tears fuel flames aglow.
