The Death of Trust and Love

They said you would deceive
     I didn't want to believe

I loved with all my heart
     thinking we would never part

I stood loyal and true
     Always believing in you

For years I was played
     and ultimately betrayed

Too many times it seems
     too many broken dreams

I don't think I can heal
     when I can't trust how I feel

When you said you lied
     all trust inside me died

I fear I'll never recover
from the lies of my "friend and lover".

This is incredibly sad Lenna. It really touched me and what I think hit me hardest was in your final line the word "friend". And yes I realize that they are one and the same, the friend and lover, but it broke my heart seeing that word combined with being betrayed. Friend and betrayal should never appear in the same sentence, but I know it does at times. So, back to the poem, the rhymes feel effortless and smooth and the poem really expresses your message perfectly. Great job my friend.

Thank You Chris. I am one who thinks my lover should also be my friend...... but then, betrayal becomes so much worse than 'just' a friend or a 'casual' lover can induce. Again, your opinion means a lot AND the fact you see the meaning and feel the emotion, priceless. THANK YOU :-)
