The Darkness At Noon
Deserted afternoon, she quietly plays
Overhead… the summer sun glares
Her sunshine song fills every corner
As she lullabies her dolls to dreamy stupor
With lusty eyes the beast walks in
She is surprised by this sudden din
Hush she says…be quiet please
This is the time my little doll sleeps
Shhh..he says I know I know
There is a better place where we can go
He beckons her with a wily grin
Her guileless eyes see no sin
He then does what beasts do best
To a helpless fledgling in the nest
The doll lies broken on the bed
Writhing with pain and heart in dread
The room is dark, sunshine gone
Everywhere there are curtains drawn
Childhood scarred, innocence strewn
It was the darkest hour of the noon
