The Dark One
There is a stranger leaning against the light post
And a black cat on the stoop.
A shadow in the window
And a menacing laugh swirling in the breeze.
Everything I see is in black and white
And there are no flowers or smiles to be seen.
What is this place, and what has happened here?
But I know the answer.
This is my home, after it was taken over
by the Dark One.
He has banished all color,
forbidden all happiness,
and emptied our pocketbooks.
So now we, who were once happy and employed
are no miserable and unemployed,
With just barely enough pennies to pay the bills.
But the Dark One doesn't care;
He'll continue to take over,
until we are all on our knees in the street
Begging for mercy and lower taxes.
Because we all hate the Dark One
who has intruded our lives and broken into our homes.
The Dark One is most unwelcome.
The Dark One is the Great Depression.
