The Cross

The cross is just a symbol, though it's very very strong
that we have taken to our hearts to show where we belong
the feelings that the cross brings out can never be dismissed
it links us all to Jesus Christ cause we are on his list

the rough hewn wood where Jesus died, the nails that held Him there
the mocking sign above His head, the crown He had to wear
all of these things should make us weep remembering our loss
now we should think of what was done each time we see a cross

They nailed Him there for all to see, a lesson we should learn
it seems they never realized the riches we would earn
the payment for our sins was made in pain and agony
and yet while bearing all of that He had His mind on me

It fills us up with love and awe and makes us feel so small
He bore the torture, pain, and death while innocent of all
but promises were made before, that He would not be stilled
which resurrection on day three proved, after He was killed

The pledges that were made back then are just as strong today
by following the Saviors words His price we shall not pay
To live forever is the goal for all who love the Lord
who use His lessons every day and follow in His Word

By being born again we're told, we can go through the gates
it's best to take the certain route than leave it to the fates
to see the Pearly gates on high and touch the Jasper walls
and to hear Angelic voices resounding down the halls

Now when we take our final breath we won't be sad or scared
we know just where we're going and we know that Jesus cared
we'll live forever happily without a tear or loss
because of what was done that day on that old rugged cross
