The Cottage In My Heart

A place abides within my heart

Whose residence I treasure

For it is filled with memories

Of carefree youthful pleasure.

A cottage in a sleepy vale

With warmth in rich supply,

Secluded and yet welcoming

To weary passers by.

And in its garden I would be

So perfectly contented,

Its borders ripe with tempting fruit,

The air so sweetly scented.

Now strangers occupy this home

For loved ones had to part

But I retain possession of

The cottage in my heart.

I recently came across this poem and absolutely love it Wendy! I'm not sure whether you still read comments at PS but just wanted to say that I found it to be a great read - and very poignant.

Thank you Craig. It's a very simple poem - one of my first attempts at poetry a few months back but it's one of my favourites.

Thank you so much for these encouraging remarks, Wendy. The cottage was very dear to our family, being our grandparents' home where we enjoyed so much fun as children.

Thank you Arturo. I have never wished to see the 'new-improved' cottage for fear of losing the one embedded in my mind's eye.

That's so kind Harry. I could have said so much more about this wonderful Welsh retreat - home to my Nan and Grandpa and a joyful respite from city life for my Dad.
