The Cost

A tiny tweak,
a twist, a touch
to fit the time
or suit the deed

A harmless word,
a phrase or two
left in, or out
as fits the need

A softened blow,
or feelings spared
intentions but
to lure or lead

A sweetened tone,
embellished thoughts
a means, an end
for pride or greed

A price is paid,
when lies are told
the cost is trust
to this, pay heed
