Listen to poem:
The Contest
Intro
This year has ended
And found me deeper in debt
A couple more gray hairs
And a handful of regrets
It ended and it seemed
Just a little colder
And looking in the mirror
I look a tad bit older
That little ache I had
Has now become a pain
And resolutions made last year
I'll visit once again
Chorus
But I'm not worried
Because I'll start something new
Not living in the passed
And do what I must do
Looking only forward
Though coming from behind
Not thinking getting older
Just ageing like fine wine
instrumental
It ended and it seemed
Just a little colder
And looking in the mirror
I look a tad bit older
That little ach I had
Has now become a pain
And resolutions made last year
I'll visit once again
Chorus
But I'm not worried
Because I'll start something new
Not living in the passed
And do what I must do
Looking only forward
Though coming from behind
Not thinking getting older
Just ageing like fine wine
Life
I've studied all religions
From sea to shining sea
Look into intuition
And old philosophies
I've Always been A seeker
of what I thought was truth
I know you think with all those studies
Something would take root
Sitting 'round campfires
While reeding, I'm from Mars
Dreaming about my Venus
And commuting with stars
I have to admit my friends
Didn't think it 'Couth"
But That's how I spent my time
When I was a youth
Chorus
I spent my life meditating
Sitting lotus style and contemplating
And looking for the piece, this puzzle would fit
Always looking toward tomorrow, Before I lived my day in sorrow
Realizing ---Boy--
"This Is It"
As a destination
But recently did another
Calculation
The answer I have found is
"This is it"
But now I'm older and I see
What I've been seeking
is the inner me
And that I've been
here all along
