The Chill of Goodbye
As the twilight of our friendship darkens deep
the starless night forbodes a future spent apart,
ther is no going back to those halycon days,
days of love
days to cherish in the mind
to recall the winter evenings in glowing flames
there to see the fire that burnt so bright diminish,
no flickering to a dying ember,
but,
suddenly,
as if both had turned in an instant
and looking back the fire was out.
No lingering warmth to ease the chill of morn
a sombre coldness pervades my all,
invades and fills the space that once was you.
