The Butterfly, Part Ii

The buttery changed the subject
To lighten the atmosphere
He decided to make the object
My preoccupation with fear

The butterfly said, “Why are you afraid to give something a try?”
“You shouldn’t worry, you’re not gonna die”
“Are you afraid of failure or success?”
“Even if you fail, it’s not such a mess”

The subject I decided now to change
For I had a question stewing in my brain
Before the butterfly thought I was deranged
Now I hoped he would answer and not refrain

I had one question for the butterfly
The answer I did not think he knew
I asked him, “Where do we go when we die?”
“If you really know, please tell me true”

He said, “That is something you don’t need to know”
“For you will find out after you go”
“But I can tell you that the good souls go on to paradise”
“The evil souls go on to a place that is not so nice”

He then said, “Are there any other questions I can answer?”
“For my time here is dwindling faster”
“I think we have had a very good conversation”
“And now you can finally overcome your obsessive fascinations”

I said, “I do have obsessive compulsive disorder”
“And what is even more so hectic”
“While fighting the daemon and monster”
“I find that I’m very dyslexic”

The butterfly finally said, “I have traveled through space and time”
“To talk to you inside your mind”
“I unraveled all of your riddles and rhymes”
“Do you have any more questions for my kind?”

I said, “Now you may think that I’m out of my mind”
“On that point I would not refrain”
“Though you may think me mad at times”
“I am no longer insane”

“I do not try to hide inside”
“It’s just my fate you see”
“For if I come out into the light outside”
“I might expose the real me”

“Besides, the light blinds my eyes”
“And burns and scars my skin”
I’d rater be left to my cold dark disguise”
“Where I can hide my sin”

“I have no more questions for you my friend”
“I have asked you all I have to ask”
“So I guess our conversation has come to an end”
Now all that is left is to put what I’ve learned to task”

The butterfly said, “I have one more thing to relay”
“So listen carefully to what I have to say”
“My time here is limited and I am running late”
“So I will just reiterate”

He then said, “I am the question mark”
“I am the shadow in the dark”
“I am the who are you”
“I tell the lies that are true”

“I am the one if you know him”
“I change the tone of the poem”
“I rhymed one and two you see”
“Now I’ll rhyme one and three”

He continued, “I am seen rarely
“Out of the corner of your eye”
“I am heard barely”
“As a small ghostly sigh”

Now I’m in Haiku
With some more advice for you
This is very true

Careful what you do
What goes around, comes around
And will bite your butt!
