My favorite past-time is trout fishing. The scenic beauty of just being out in the wilderness, the sounds of the raging rivers, and the enjoyment of solitude, is well worth every fishing trip regardless if I catch anything or not. I love the nature.!

You pack up all your fishing gear On the night before Then you wake up very early And you head on out the door You drive when it's still dark outside And mist is in the air Sandy-eyed and wide awake Because you'll soon be there As you approach the river And the sun begins to rise You step into the water With your fishing pole and flies Quietly you cast your line And let the flies drift free You let it flow into a spot Where you think the trout might be Patience is the remedy And patience does prevail You may just hook the fish you want To bring home for a meal I prefer to catch a trout And then to set him free I may keep one or two all year And that's okay with me When I do release a trout It's a feeling I can't explain I like to see him swagger off And leave him in no pain It's always nice to fight a trout And it's fun to reel one in But just to be out on the river Will always make me grin So if you see me fishing Or if you see me out Rest assure I'll be fishing for That big old rainbow trout

Thanks so much for sharing this with me. A great write. Rhyme, flow and imagery all combining with your storytelling ability make this a great poem. I’m with you, if I’m not fishing to eat it’s catch and release all the way. John

Another beauty Charles … an old mate often said to me 'it's great to catch a fish, but even better to be fishing' and I reckon, like you, he's right - thanks Mate - Lindsay

Thanks for commenting on this one Lindsay! That old mate of yours is right. We say it in New Jersey, U.S. like this. "A bad day of fishing is much better than a good day at work" or " "with your wife" Maybe that's why I went through two wives already.(lol) Thanks again Mate...Charlie

Nicely written, Charles. Your poem is a perfect example of poetry I especially like. It rhymes so nicely, has a lovely flow, and I know what I've read without having to ponder on it for ages to try and decipher what the poet (you in this poem) is conveying. I love nature too. :) ~ Artsie

Hi Artsie, it seems you and I have something in common. (we both love nature) :) I always try to tell a story in my poems and hopefully have the reader picture it as I do. Sometimes it is hard to decipher the thoughts of another. So glad you liked it and thank you for your comment. Nice to meet you and all the best..~Charlie~
